The dried silica powder is reacted with dry hydrogen chloride gas in a chlorination boiler at 340°C, and the resulting crude trichlorosilane is separated by a wet precipitator and a tube condenser dedistillation column, and then condensed to obtain the finished product. The product can also be obtained by the reaction of ferrosilicon and HCl.
